Lucas Swieykowski:

After being introduced to a pair of skis for the first time on the living room carpet, Lucas was hitched with the experience. Ever since then he has followed the sports’ development adapting to its new techniques and embracing the growing sense of self-expression and liberty while skiing. While instructing in various world-known resorts across South America, Europe and North America he was inspired by fellow skiers and in 2006 began exploring the “Freeride” concept by making a transition and taking the freestyle mindset to big mountain terrain.

With sponsor support and Lucas’ own will power to go beyond boundaries and push limits, he began pioneering his own back-yard; introducing and bringing focus to this new movement in events and media.

Motivation and enduring attitude have made Lucas an ambassador for Bariloche and Argentina as a rider in the Freeride scene. Once awarded “King of the rails” in Whistler and achieving good results in different Freeride events, as podium at Engadin Snow 2009 edition, season 2010/2011 was looking very promising.

Unfortunately for this charismatic and passionate rider, French La Clusaz resulted in a change in plans; currently getting back in shape from his hip injury Lucas is already aiming for a good recovery and is excited for the upcoming season.

Why do you like this ski?

It is a playful big mountain ski, really good for all conditions as an everyday ski. If its powder, crust or groomed, it´s always very versatile and can take you and perform everywhere on the mountain.

What conditions do you use this ski for?

It´s an everyday ski to enjoy all over the mountain and for all conditions. You can never go wrong with this ski.

What other skis in the collection do you ride? 

Katana and Chop Stick

Can you tell us a little about each pair of skis, and about what sort of conditions you use them for?

Chopstick – Twin tip for powder days, good to ride forward and backwards. Good on back country kickers.

Katana - Strong and powerful ski, specially for big lines and drops!

What about bindings? What bindings do you use? And where do you mount them?

Marker Jester 16. On the gotama I use it 3cm forward than the Volkl reference.

On the Katana I use it 5cm forward than the ref.

What DIN do you have your bindings on?

Ideal day in the mountains: Fresh pow with a sunny day! Friends, no stress and enjoying every run!

How would you describe your style: Technical skier, who likes to go down fast.

Your biggest breakthrough in your skiing career. In 2007 I changed my mindset, went from working with skiing to making skiing my way of life. This changed the way I regarded myself and the ski scene. Headed towards Switzerland and focused only on my skiing and my new aim. Soon enough, already in early 2008, interesting things started to happen…

Favorite place to ride: There are so many places to ride that one can´t only have one favorite place. But taking into account the unique mountain features and breathtaking view I would have to say my own back-yard, Bariloche, is definitely one of my favorites.

Best snow trip: Last November. 2 days of heli and a great start of season in the Engadin. Fresh pow, sunny days and nice crew to ski around with.

What age did you start to ski: I started when I was 8. But didn´t really ski much until I was 14.

What cant you live without: Skiing…

Goals and plans: Continue to work hard on my recovery and already in a couple of months present a ski-related film project I am working on, before heading to the European season with a fully packed agenda of events and competitions.
