As a passionate winter sports brand, we produce high-end products for use in nature. This requires first and foremost an intact, natural environment. We all live from nature and anything that threatens the environment therefore threatens us as well – both as individuals and as a company.
We know that we – like other industrial firms – leave behind traces in the environment. Yet we don't simply accept this as a given.
We have been working on improvement initiatives for years to reduce our footprint step by step.
Völkl Snowboards wins EuroSIMA award
Ecological Innovation Prize for three exemplary Snowboards
Every year, the EuroSIMA Industry Awards are given out Europe-wide to companies, athletes and personalities that are pushing this sport with exceptional achievements and ideas. On October 1, 2010 the award ceremony was held in Saint-Jean-de-Luz within an evening ceremony.
Thereby Völkl Snowboards was awarded the ECOLOGICAL INNOVATION PRIZE which carries a value of 5.000 Euro. A jury of experts that are appointed by the EuroSIMA decided to give the prize to Völkl Snowboards for their eco-friendly snowboard range. The boards Cashew, Yavana (2010), and Vice SQD (2011) stand for ecologically sensitive production. These snowboards have a tear-resistant hemp/linen top instead of a plastic topsheet and also have flexible wooden sidewalls instead of normal plastic ones. This alone saves more than 400 gram of plastic for every board. Additionally the use of synthetic resin and other toxic materials were reduced to a minimum. Even the base is more ecological now. It consists of 80% recycled base material and even the steel edges are made of renewable resources.
By winning this award Völkl Snowboards is giving a clear signal for ecological awareness and proofs that they are on the right track for a better future.
