We are world champions! Sensational double victory for MDV Sports athletes at the World Championships in Cortina
Sebastian Foss-Solevåg is slalom world champion, Adrian Pertl takes silver
A milestone in the success story of MDV Sports: At the last race of the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Sunday, February 21, two MDV athletes triumphed and celebrated a sensational double victory. Thanks to an outstanding performance, two top runs and a perfect set-up by Marker, Dalbello and Völkl, Norway’s Sebastian Foss-Solevåg took gold and Austria's Adrian Pertl silver in the men's slalom.
Sebastian Foss-Solevåg was still in third place after the first run on Sunday, just behind surprise leader Adrian Pertl from Austria and Alex Vinatzer from Italy. In his fantastic final run, he then set the fastest time and won with a lead of 0.21 seconds ahead of Adrian Pertl from the Austrian team and his Norwegian compatriot Henrik Kristoffersen.
The way to the world champion set-up
Full commitment across the board and together for the win! The spectacular World Championship success of the two MDV athletes was not only preceded by physical and mental preparation. In order to compete on race day with the best possible set-up and to create optimal conditions, also the entire race equipment from Marker, Dalbello and Völkl was perfectly adapted to the athletes’ needs together with them. This also means that final touches have to be made even last-minute. For example, a new ski for Sebastian was produced at Völkl in Straubing at very short notice and the boots also had to be adjusted for him in the final stages. Thus, just a few days before his victory, he received newly manufactured ski boots from the Dalbello racing experts, which were injected with an individual material mixture according to his wishes to ensure even more performance. Adrian Pertl also changed his boot model once again in preparation for the World Championships in order to create the best conditions for his success together with MDV Sports.
Sebastian Foss-Solevåg, who has counted on MDV Sports’ equipment since his childhood, is the first Norwegian to win the Slalom World Championship title for his country since 1997 and one of the five skiers to finish the FIS Ski World Championships with two gold medals. On Wednesday, February 17, he had already led Norway to gold in the team competition.
For the 24-year-old Austrian Adrian Pertl it was a surprise result. It was the first time in his career that he had participated in a World Ski Championships and he had also only been on the podium once in the World Cup so far. Since his change to MDV Sports, he has thus achieved a remarkable development.
We are family – The secret of success of the MDV family
In the conjunction of MDV Sports, Marker, Dalbello and Völkl follow a joint credo: “3 brands - 1 spirit” – a philosophy that is also lived and appreciated by the athletes who are equipped by the three brands. The top athletes are also regularly on site at Völkl in Straubing or at Dalbello in Asolo and play a key role in fine-tuning the products. For example, the DRS WC, Dalbello's World Cup ski boot, was developed from scratch by the product developers in Asolo, Italy, in close cooperation with the World Cup team. Sebastian Foss-Solevåg was also intensively involved in the development of the new DRS from the very beginning as part of the team around Dalbello product manager Giuseppe Bianchini. The team of development engineers, product managers and athletes uses all synergies in the best possible way to achieve a common goal: To create the best equipment for skiers all over the world - and to celebrate outstanding successes like this one together!
