It’s a hard work to test skis in 1 meter of powder!

Although, my official profession is as professor of Material Chemistry at the University of Bologna (hence my nickname "the powder scientist"), I can be more easily found in the deepest powder all over the world and in arctic regions seeking for first descents. I'm a field tester and technical expert on ski-boot plastic and on composite materials for ski equipments. Nevertheless, I definitely think that the best way to test ski equipments is immersed in one meter of powder rather then closed in a Lab. During my explorative trips I love to take thousands of pictures for ski magazines and for Volkl-Marker-Dalbello group.

What are your favorite ski touring skis in the Collection?

All the BMTs

Why do you like this ski?

They are very light but they ski like a Real ski: perfect stiffness and rebound, great edge hold and great flotation in powder.

What conditions do you use this ski for?

Every conditions. BMT122 for deep powder days,

BMT 94 for long tours and expeditions

What binding do you use?

Why do you like this binding?

They are the best bindings on the market. Great for going uphill with the skins and safe and strong skiing downhill.

How did you become involved in ski touring?

I started when I was 22 years old. My friends made me a gift for my graduation at the university and from then I started doing ski mountaineering every day I was not working at the University

What is your all time favorite ski tour?

My favorite ski tour was in Greenland in the east cost, north of Ittoquottormitt. Beautiful and wild mountains, great skiing and a lot of first descents.

Plans for the future

I'm planning to ski in the Altai mountains, between the Mongolian and Siberian borders. I'm also planning some ski mountaineering in Hokkaido, in search for untracked deep powder.
